In this sequel, starring Ben Stiller once again, the setting shifts from the Museum of Natural History in Manhattan to the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.
Stiller's character has parlayed his security guard duty at the MNH into a career as a successful inventor, with wealth beyond what he could have imagined.
He learns that the exhibits that he cared for and played with, including the Huns, the miniatures and many others, were being decommissioned and sent to the archives at the Smithsonian.
The story isn't as interesting as the plot in the first NatM, and the absence of the three eldery guards giving Stiller's character a hard time mean there is less humor in some parts.
Hank Azaria and Owen Wilson are the real stars, and Wilson's role is greatly expanded from his turn in the first movie. Amy Adams plays Amelia Earhardt, but I'm not a fan of Adams at all, so I could've done without her.
If you enjoyed the first NatM, you'll enjoy this one. Fans of Stiller and Wilson and Azaria will enjoy this movie. For me, though, I probably should've waited for the Blu-Ray.
